The QLK–150 wheelchair docking system from Q’Straint has made a remarkable difference to the Crane family from Loughborough. Fostering five children with disabilities and learning difficulties, Andrew and Mandy have found securing their daughter Tilly in a vehicle easy, safe and hassle-free. Working closely with Tilly’s wheelchair provider Chunc and the adapted vehicle supplier Sirus Automotive, everyday life for the Crane family has been vastly improved by the Q’Straint QLK.
The Crane family are remarkable however they were still affected by the difficulties of transferring their less able children in and out of the family vehicle. Thi

s was until they discovered the QLK wheelchair docking system from Q’Straint. One of their fostered children, Tilly aged 7, who has Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and uses a Chunc 45, can now travel frequently in their adapted Toyota Previa WAV to school, hospital and for days out. She can be efficiently secured in the vehicle without the need to be transferred out of her wheelchair, whilst her postural position and medical set up can be maintained without the need to re-configure on a regular basis.
Successfully crashed tested with powerchairs weighing up to 200kg and engineered with the highest quality components, the QLK-150 docking system gives total peace of mind to the Crane family. The specific QLK used to connect securely with Tilly’s locking bolt on the underside of her chair, incorporates a higher 90mm casing so that it delivers both optimum clearance and safe securement. The Previa WAV-Evolution that Tilly travels in encompasses adapted side access next to the driver so her parents are always in close proximity on medical grounds. They can safely remain in control of the vehicle whilst monitoring her condition as Tilly is prone to seizures. The Q’Straint QLK provides the ideal solution for rapid transfer and securement of Tilly from her home to the WAV which commonly happens over four times a day. She can be prepared for a journey inside the family home which is especially important in poor weather as she is prone to chest infections. As Tilly’s Chunc chair locks automatically with the QLK, there is no need for application or adjustment of fixings at floor level which commonly lead to soiling of clothes and hands. Also as no lifting or bending is required to secure Tilly, this delivers a major benefit as Mandy struggles with back problems which were being aggravated before using the QLK.

Andrew Crane concluded, “The QLK has made such a difference to our lives. Its design with an easy to locate, obstruction free channel results in straightforward use time and again. It really saves time and encourages us to travel with the children as the hassle factor is greatly reduced. This results in a better quality of life for us all and we hope to purchase a new vehicle soon with two QLKs so we can take Tilly and our 20 month old Princess out at the same time. I would thoroughly recommend the QLK to any family who need a safe, reliable solution for securing a wheelchair using relative or child in a vehicle.”
