Posture management for children and adults with complex disabilities
Chunc is committed to creating a world class posture management system that encompasses the best clinical information to date. Following from this we are also committed to developing the knowledge and skill of the AHP’s to enhance their interventions and management of their disabled children and young people.
A management approach to disability has two aims:
- To maximise remaining functional ability using assistive technology as and when indicated
- To minimise secondary complications associated with the original impairment
Successful management of the disabled person is dependent on the AHP feeling confident and empowered through the acquisition of sufficient knowledge and skill. (Pope, 2007).
Being able to recognise whether a problem exists, what the problem actually is, identifying how best to correct it and how to assess whether intervention has been successful are the 4 questions that are essential to creating a platform for a “well-managed” disabled child. (Pope, 2007)
